The Kia Ora Hauora Te Waipounamu is represented by all those communities in the South Island. The land area of the South Island is approximately 150,800 square kilometres. This is larger than the North Island but just under a quarter of New Zealand’s population lives in the South Island.

There are five District Health Boards (DHBs) in the South Island that provide quality health care and workforce development programmes in our region:
